Child laborer dies while collecting garbage in Birjand

A 13-year-old child laborer in Birjand drowned in an agricultural pond while collecting cardboard and waste. The body of the child, who had been missing since yesterday morning, was discovered this afternoon after hours of searching.
According to HRANA news agency, quoting Rokna, the head of the Birjand Municipality Fire and Safety Services Organization announced the drowning of a 13-year-old child laborer in an agricultural water storage pond.
He said in this regard: “This afternoon, following a phone call from the teenager’s mother to the Fire Department headquarters stating that her son had drowned in a pool located in the Sajjadshahr neighborhood of Birjand, the Fire Department’s rescue team was dispatched to the scene of the incident.”
He added: "The lifeless body of a 13-year-old boy who had been missing since yesterday morning was found this afternoon near his father's workplace in a pool of water after hours of efforts by his family and the police to find him. According to the family of this person, who was also a foreign national, he fell into the pool with the intention of collecting cardboard and waste that was on the surface of the water and drowned."
The lack of careful monitoring of the safety of agricultural ponds and pools has previously caused similar incidents.
