Dairy consumption in Iran has decreased by 20 percent with an 80 percent increase in prices

The chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Dairy Products Industries Association says that after the "reform of the subsidy system" last month, dairy prices experienced an increase of about 80%.
On Monday, June 6, Mir-Eslam Teymouri, referring to the decline in consumers' purchasing power, said that since May, when the price of milk increased significantly, dairy consumption in households has decreased by 20 percent.
According to him, this decrease in consumption has occurred in the short term, and it is predicted that the decrease in dairy consumption will increase in the long term.
Hossein Chamani, advisor to the Dairy Products Industries Association, also warned yesterday that the decline in consumers' purchasing power and the devaluation of the rial have changed people's behavior and have had negative effects on the food pyramid and people's food basket.
He called the decrease in milk consumption in the last four years about 40% and added that the consequences of the decrease in milk consumption in cellular starvation are irreparable.
Mr. Chamani continued by saying that the average dairy consumption in Western Europe is about 260 kilograms per year, while per capita consumption in Iran is less than 90 kilograms.
