Mostafa Badkoubaei, an Iranian poet, literary critic, and activist who had previously been sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court, was arrested and transferred to prison after going to Evin Prosecutor's Office.
According to news published on human rights networks, this Iranian poet and literary critic, who was summoned to Branch 1 of the Criminal Sentence Execution Department of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of District 33 of Tehran in early May upon receiving a notice, was arrested on Monday, June 1, after attending the execution of sentences at the Evin Prosecutor's Office and then transferred to Greater Tehran Prison.
An informed source confirmed the news to Voice of America, telling them that this arrest and transfer to the Greater Tehran Prison is taking place at a time when Mostafa Badkoubaei is not only suffering from multiple illnesses but is also suspected of having the coronavirus and must be treated at medical centers outside the prison.
According to published information, Mostafa Badkoobeh, who has so far published 29 books, including "Reasons for the Defeat of the Sassanids by the Arabs" and "Khayyam's Biography," in the fields of poetry, literature, and history, was previously sentenced to one year in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of insulting sacred places, a sentence that was confirmed by the Tehran Court of Appeals.
Mostafa Badkoubaei wrote many critical poems after the 2009 presidential election. He was arrested by security agencies in the spring of 2011 and spent time in Evin Prison until October 2013.
Previously, Mojgan Kavsi, an Iranian Kurdish writer and researcher, whose 69-month prison sentence was increased to 76 months and 15 days by the Mazandan Provincial Court of Appeals after the prosecutor complained that the sentence was too short and rejected the defenses of the lawyer in the case. On Tuesday, May 20, she was arrested and transferred to Nowshahr Prison to serve her sentence.
The US State Department has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic regime's violent actions against the Iranian people under various pretexts, including attacks on the freedom to choose the type of clothing, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by agents of the regime.
