US State Department official condemns Islamic Republic's harassment of Persian-speaking journalists

A US State Department official announced that the United States government condemns the Islamic Republic's regime's harassment and intimidation of Persian-speaking journalists outside Iran.

Robert Destro, Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, announced this in a tweet on Tuesday, February 5, writing: "We stand with the Iranian people on their right to freedom of information, and with independent journalists who fight to inform the public."

Previously, Brian Hook, the US State Department's special representative for Iran, had announced that the United States condemns the Iranian regime's targeting of journalists and their families.

In recent months, the government and judiciary of the Islamic Republic have once again imposed restrictions, including a ban on transactions, on journalists working for some Persian-language media outlets outside Iran, and have also put pressure on the families of some Iranian journalists.
