Statement by Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom: The trial of those responsible for the downing of the Ukrainian plane in Iran must be transparent and public

The International Coordination and Response Group for the Victims of the Ukrainian Flight, including representatives from Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, whose citizens were killed when Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 was shot down by the Revolutionary Guards, issued a joint statement protesting the Islamic Republic of Iran's "violation of international law."
The statement, released on Thursday, June 13, states: "Iran's actions and what Iran has omitted from the investigation into this matter are a violation of international law."
Another part of the statement reads: "Due to this disaster, the citizens and passengers of that flight have been seriously and irreversibly harmed, and Iran is legally obligated to compensate for the damage."
These countries, whose citizens were on the flight, want "the Islamic Republic of Iran to admit its mistake, explain the entire incident, publicly apologize, and return the victims' remaining and stolen property."
The countries issuing the statement also demanded that Iran "guarantee that this will not happen again."
"The prosecution of those responsible for this incident in a transparent, public, and legal manner" is another demand of the statement.
The statement continued: "Appropriate material and moral damages should be paid to the survivors of the victims, without discrimination on the basis of nationality and in accordance with international law."
These countries have demanded that Iran set a date to begin formal negotiations for compensation.
