British police have released the identity of the Manchester suicide bomber: he is a 22-year-old man named Salman Abedi, who was born in Manchester. His family had immigrated to Britain from the Gaddafi regime.

British authorities have identified the suicide bomber in the Manchester bombing.

US media, citing British sources, have revealed the identity of the perpetrator of the Manchester terrorist attack.

His name is Salman Abedi and he was born in 1994 to a Muslim and Arab family in Manchester. He was the fourth and last child in the family.

Salman Abedi's parents had fled Libya to Britain before he was born, fleeing Muammar Gaddafi's regime.

News agencies have quoted British officials as saying that the intelligence service's current priority in its investigation is to determine what connections the suicide bomber had and to what extent he was linked to terrorist networks.

The terrorist group "Islamic Caliphate" (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the Manchester terrorist attack in a statement, claiming that the attackers were "soldiers of the Caliphate."

A massive explosion at a concert hall in Manchester on Monday evening killed 22 people and injured more than 50. Most of the victims were young people.

The explosion occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m., immediately after the concert ended.

Consecutive assassinations since 2005

Police have made two more arrests in a manhunt for possible accomplices to the blast, which took place on Tuesday. In addition, police detonated a suspicious substance at a location in a Greater Manchester area.

The Manchester attack comes two months after a terrorist attack in Westminster, London, in which five people were killed. The Manchester attack is also not without its historical context. Four years ago on this day, a British soldier was killed in a stabbing attack. A far more deadly attack took place in 2005 on the London Underground, killing 52 people and injuring hundreds more. Most of these attacks have been claimed by Islamist extremists.
