Nasrin Sotoudeh will not appeal her 12-year prison sentence

Reza Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh's husband, announced that the lawyer and human rights defender will not appeal his 12-year prison sentence.
Mr. Khandan told AFP on Sunday, March 16, that Nasrin Sotoudeh believes that the unfair process of handling the case in the Islamic Republic's judicial system has rendered protests and appeals ineffective.
According to Reza Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh was sentenced to 12 years in prison on the charge of “inciting corruption.” Ms. Sotoudeh, who represented a number of “Girls of Revolution Street,” protesters against the mandatory hijab, and had supported their actions, faced this charge.
Reza Khandan, the husband of the imprisoned lawyer, recently announced that Nasrin Sotoudeh was sentenced to 33 years and six months in prison and 148 lashes in her latest case for two cases with multiple charges. She had previously been sentenced to five years in prison.
The issuance of this heavy sentence was met with severe international criticism.
