Special Rapporteur on Human Rights expresses grave concern over execution of juveniles in Iran

Javed Rehman, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran, has reported at least 173 executions this year. Two of those executed were reportedly as young as 17. Rehman has criticized the violations of minority rights in Iran.

Javed Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, has expressed concern over the execution of juveniles and the increasing pressure on minorities in the country. The report on human rights violations in Iran, which was prepared under the supervision of Javed Rehman, has been submitted to the UN.

On Thursday, October 24, the German news agency published a report from Geneva, announcing the publication of a report by Javid Rahman on human rights violations by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This report was prepared by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran and submitted to the UN General Assembly.

Javed Rahman wrote in his report that at least 173 people had been executed in Iran as of mid-July of this year. The report states that a number of members of minorities were among those executed.

In addition, the report states that two of those executed this year were 17 years old. Javed Rahman stated in his report that seven juveniles were executed in Iran in 2018.

Expressing extreme concern

The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights has expressed concern about the situation of young people in prison in Iran. His report states that it is currently estimated that 90 people who were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime are at risk of execution.

Javed Rahman referred to the resolution of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the execution of juveniles and considered Iran's action a clear violation of international standards.

This resolution includes, among others, people who were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for an immediate end to the death penalty for these prisoners.

Criticism of increasing pressure on minorities

The German news agency continued its report by pointing to the increasing pressure on ethnic and religious minorities in Iran. Javid Rahman believes that the main pressure arising from the worsening economic situation is mainly transferred to ethnic and religious minorities in Iran.

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran has criticized the number of executions among members of minorities in Iran. He also emphasized that a large proportion of political prisoners in Iran are members of religious and ethnic minorities.

While referring to the possibility of women entering stadiums, Rahman emphasized that despite this, discrimination against women continues and their rights are violated both legally and practically.
