Seventh day of teachers' protest over their employment status

The protest of dozens of teachers in Tehran continued for the seventh consecutive day on Monday, March 29.

The rally was held in front of the National Employment Agency, and the teachers demanded an end to the "indecision" and the issuance of their verdict.

These teachers are protesting the "failure" to fulfill promises made by officials regarding their "ambiguous" employment status, as well as their low salaries.

Some of these tuition teachers told ILNA news agency: "Our income is low, some teachers didn't even have the money to travel to Tehran, and colleagues helped raise money for them."

These teachers say they are not demanding more than their due and are asking officials to keep their promises.

According to ILNA news agency, these teachers have demanded the implementation of a plan called "Determining the Task of Hiring Teachers and Literacy Movement Educators," which was approved by the parliament in 2009.

On Sunday, March 28, these tuition-free teachers held a rally in front of the Islamic Consultative Assembly building, demanding that members of parliament address their situation.

Last week, these teachers held a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education building for several days, demanding that the authorities pay attention to their living conditions and low salaries.

Over the past few months, various parts of Iran have been the scene of protest rallies by teachers, workers, retirees, and other segments of society.

These gatherings, often held to protest the living conditions, have in some cases been met with repression and arrests of protesters by government officials.
