Wife of Behnam Mahjoubi Darvish: They tell us the same thing every day about his condition in the hospital

Saleheh Hosseini, the wife of Behnam Mahjoubi Darvish, a prisoner currently hospitalized in Loghman Hospital, announced his physical condition as critical, citing officials.

On Wednesday, February 19, in a video message on Twitter, Ms. Hosseini said that Mr. Mahjoubi has been kept in the ICU for four days.

She said that on the first day, the family was told that he had died, but then they said that he was alive under the machine. Ms. Hosseini criticized the hospital officials' inconsistencies about the political prisoner's condition.

Yesterday, shortly after the release of videos of Behnam Mahjoubi's mother, some grieving mothers and those who have lost their loved ones in recent years gathered in front of the hospital.

Nahid Shirpisheh, the mother of Pouya Bakhtiari, one of those killed in the November 2019 protests, who is among these mothers, told Voice of America on Tuesday night after appearing in front of the hospital about Behnam Mahjoubi's latest condition: "I think he may be spending the last moments of his life. Now, with the machine, he is in a coma and very close to death, unfortunately."

In addition to Ms. Shirpisheh, Sakineh Ahmadi, the mother of Ebrahim Kebatdar, another person killed in the November 2019 protests, Shahnaz Akmalli, the mother of Mustafa Karim Beigi, one of the Green Movement's protest victims, and Akram Niqabi, the mother of Saeed Zeinali, who was arrested and disappeared in the University Quarter in 1999, were present on Tuesday, February 18, in front of the hospital where Behnam Mahjoubi, a prisoner, was hospitalized.

Behnam Mahjoubi, a prisoner named Darvish Gonabadi, was transferred from Evin Prison to Loghman Hospital in Tehran on Saturday, February 15, following "drug poisoning." On Sunday, February 16, an Evin Prison officer at Loghman Hospital told Behnam Mahjoubi's family that the political prisoner's level of consciousness had dropped and that he had fallen into a coma.

Mr. Mahjoubi is one of the Gonabadi dervishes who has been arrested on charges of gathering and colluding in the Golestan 7th incident. He was sentenced to two years in prison and has not been able to be released on bail during this time.

Following the widespread presence of security forces and plainclothes in February 2017 in front of the house of Noor Ali Tabandeh, the former head of the Gonabadi Dervishes, a large number of Gonabadi Dervishes took to that street to prevent the gathering of security forces and law enforcement in front of Noor Ali Tabandeh's house and to restore the situation in the area to normal.

These gatherings led to clashes between security forces and special forces with the Dervishes present at the location.

During these clashes, hundreds of Gonabadi dervishes were injured and arrested, and subsequently sentenced to severe punishments.

In recent years, the United States has repeatedly protested the widespread violations of the rights of religious and ethnic minorities in Iran in its human rights reports.
