Iran releases seven crew members of seized British tanker

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman announced that the country has released seven crew members of the seized ship "Stina Impero." According to Abbas Mousavi, these individuals were citizens of India and Russia.

Abbas Mousavi, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, announced that seven crew members of the British tanker Stena Impero have been allowed to return to their country. He said in a press conference on Wednesday that the selection of these people was at the discretion of the ship’s captain and that they will be able to leave Iran soon. According to the Foreign Ministry spokesman, the released nationals were Indian and Russian.

The Stena Impero was seized by the Revolutionary Guards Navy on July 19. The seizure is said to have been in response to the seizure of the Iranian tanker Grace 1 by the Gibraltar Navy, in conjunction with the British Royal Navy. Iran denies any connection between the two incidents.

Following the seizure of the British tanker Stena Impero, Britain expressed its readiness to participate in a naval mission to ensure the security of shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz under the command of the United States Navy.

On September 2, news broke of the possible deployment of British military drones to support the country's warships in a naval mission in the Persian Gulf. These drones, which are capable of carrying missiles, have been used in other parts of the Middle East.
