Prince Reza Pahlavi's sharp reaction to the possible name change of the Persian Gulf

In a strong reaction to the possible name change of the Persian Gulf, Prince Reza Pahlavi said: "Iran's national heritage is not negotiable."

Reports published by American media regarding Donald Trump's possible decision to use the title "Arabian Gulf" or "Saudi Gulf" instead of "Persian Gulf" have generated widespread reactions among Iranian political figures and social media users.

CNN also announced today that Trump will travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, citing two US government officials, and that Donald Trump intends to use alternative names for the Persian Gulf, and that if this decision becomes final, it will result in widespread diplomatic and nationalist reactions.

In a sharp and fierce reaction to the news, Prince Reza Pahlavi said: "Iran's national heritage is not negotiable. The Persian Gulf is not just a name, it is a historical reality. For thousands of years, Iranians, Arabs, and Westerners have known this stretch of water between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula by its true and unique name, the Persian Gulf. President Trump's reported decision to distort history, if true, is an insult to the Iranian people and our great civilization."

"But the main culprit for this shameful act is none other than Ali Khamenei and his anti-Iranian regime, who have weakened our country to such an extent that foreign powers allow themselves to distort world history and insult Iran's national identity."

In his sharp words, the prince also added: "The Islamic Republic is the originator of this national crisis, and we will not gather under the flag of this usurping regime, but all of us Iranians, regardless of our political orientation, belief, or perspective, must unite once and for all under the flag of the Lion and the Sun to once again raise this flag over Iran and the Persian Gulf forever. The Persian Gulf is our national heritage, and defending its honor and name is a national responsibility that each of us must shoulder in any way possible. Long live Iran, long live the Persian Gulf."

Hamed Esmailiyon also reacted to this decision by posting on his Instagram page, saying: "A dramatic correspondence with Ali Khamenei on the one hand and the intention to change the name of the Persian Gulf on the other hand, leads a part of the people to support repressive ideologies. The history of Iran and the Persian Gulf is beyond states and will remain so."

"Tomaj Salehi," a protest singer and former political prisoner, also emphasized that "Donald Trump's possible decision is due to his inability to distinguish between the people of Iran and the Islamic Republic," and posted a message on the X social network, writing: "Changing the name of the Persian Gulf is a distortion of history and a denial of reality. This issue goes beyond political tendencies, and Iranians are united in defending their historical identity."

Former Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also reacted to this news by publishing a post in English, writing: "The political motives for changing the historical name of the Persian Gulf indicate hostile intentions against Iran and its people and are strongly condemned. Iran has always had no objection to other names for seas, but this attempt to distort a historical name is disrespectful to the collective heritage of humanity."

Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also said in response to Donald Trump's decision: "Using a fictitious name for the Persian Gulf will anger every patriotic Iranian."

Some analysts also said about this report: "The name Persian Gulf is known as the official name in historical documents and world maps, and the efforts of some Arab countries to change it to the Arabian Gulf have repeatedly led to diplomatic crises. Therefore, if Trump wants to officially use the Arabian Gulf instead of the Persian Gulf, Iran's relations with the Arab countries of the region will undoubtedly be affected and will create new tensions, especially in the current situation when some Arab countries and Tehran have taken steps to improve bilateral relations."
