Arab countries in the region are concerned about the transmission of the coronavirus from Iran

As the number of people infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Iran increases, the Persian Gulf countries have reported an increase in cases of the disease in their countries, and have identified travelers who have entered these countries from Iran as the carriers.

AFP has reported the spread of the new coronavirus in Iran and concerns in Arab countries and Iran's neighbors about the risk of the virus spreading through travelers who have entered these countries from Iran. Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have reported multiple cases of coronavirus patients in their countries.

Kuwait reported eight new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The Kuwaiti Health Ministry said three of them had returned from Iran and were now in quarantine. The Iraqi Health Ministry also reported four new cases of the coronavirus in a family of a man who recently returned to Iraq from Iran. All members of the family have been quarantined.

Another case of coronavirus has been diagnosed in southern Iraq. The AFP news agency pointed to the close political and economic relations between Iran and Iraq, writing that despite this, Iraq has closed its borders to Iran.

The situation in Bahrain is more critical. There, 17 cases of coronavirus have been identified, most of whom traveled to Bahrain from Iran. Oman has already reported two cases of coronavirus. The World Health Organization has reported 13 cases of coronavirus in the United Arab Emirates. Some of these countries have tried to prevent the spread of the disease from Iran to their countries by reducing passenger traffic between the two countries. Some of these countries, including the United Arab Emirates, have canceled flights to Iran for a while.

Turkey closed its borders to Iranian passengers two days ago to prevent the spread of the disease in Turkey. All 132 passengers on a flight from Tehran that arrived in Turkey on that day were quarantined. It is said that 17 patients with coronavirus were among the passengers on the flight that took off from Tehran and landed in Ankara.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Tuesday afternoon that the coronavirus tests of travelers who entered Turkey from Iran and were under quarantine were negative and none of them were infected with the virus.

The AFP news agency cited statistics published by official sources in Iran, reporting 15 deaths from the disease and 95 cases, saying that these patients are scattered across different cities in Iran.

While news of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran has been widely reported around the world, Iranian government officials continue to downplay the number of patients in Iran and the danger of the disease. Experts and doctors from the health organization are skeptical of the official statistics published by the government in Iran, because the ratio of victims to patients is very high, unlike in other countries in the world.
