President Trump: I will meet with North Korean leader if conditions are right

The US president says he is ready to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un if the conditions are right. The US has previously called on North Korea to give up its nuclear activities.
According to the Associated Press, US President Donald Trump told Bloomberg on Monday, May 1: "If the circumstances are right for me to meet with him, I would definitely do it and I would be honored to do it."
The US president emphasized that he would only do this "if the conditions are right."
"A lot of political people never say this, but I'm telling you, under the right circumstances, I will meet with him," Mr. Trump said.
Although the US president did not elaborate on the "appropriate conditions", in recent days he has made comments urging the North Korean leader to abandon his controversial nuclear program in order to receive US assistance.
Tensions have increased in recent weeks between the United States and North Korea.
In the past month, US officials have repeatedly threatened that the country's policy towards North Korea has changed. Last week, reports emerged of a change in US policy.
Last week, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that the Trump administration wants North Korea to come to the negotiating table.
The US Secretary of State said: “We hope to convince them that: You don’t need nuclear weapons to survive your regime… We are not looking to overthrow your regime. We are not looking to advance the unification of the Korean Peninsula. We want a Korean Peninsula free of nuclear weapons.”
On Thursday, May 29, Mr. Trump also spoke of the possibility of a "serious conflict" with North Korea, but emphasized that he prefers to resolve disputes through diplomacy.
