Pompeo: The world should condemn Khamenei's hateful ideology

In response to Ayatollah Khamenei accusing the UAE of treason on Tuesday, the US secretary of state called on the world to condemn and reject the Islamic Republic's leader's "hate-based ideology."

In a belated response, Ali Khamenei called the UAE's move to normalize relations with Israel a "betrayal" of the Islamic world, the Arab world, and the Palestinian issue.

According to a report on the website of the Leader of the Islamic Republic, he said on Tuesday, September 1, that the UAE government's decision is like a "stain" for those who allowed Israel to gain a foothold "in the region."

In response to this comment, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a Twitter message published on Wednesday, September 3, condemned the position of the Leader of the Islamic Republic and emphasized that the United States stands with the United Arab Emirates.

This was Ali Khamenei's first stance on normalizing the UAE's relationship with Israel. Officials in the Islamic Republic have always questioned the existence of Israel and threatened to destroy it.

Before him, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had also warned the UAE not to allow Israel into the Persian Gulf region.

In his tweet, Mr. Pompeo once again pointed to a point that the Islamic Republic's officials seem to prefer to ignore in silence: the issue of Uyghur Muslims in China.

He continued his tweet by writing: "If you are looking for someone who betrays Islam, China is trying to destroy the Uyghurs."

Mike Pompeo writes that he "looks forward to Ali Khamenei's public response" to the Uyghur issue in China.
