Four IRGC members killed and wounded in clashes in Saravan

The Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that two of its soldiers were killed in a clash in the Saravan border region, near the Pakistani border. Two other members of the Corps were also wounded.

The IRGC Ground Forces announced in a statement on Sunday, July 21, that two of their members were killed in a clash with a terrorist group in the Saravan district, near the Pakistani border.

According to IRNA, the statement said that the clash took place last night at the Saravan border and a Ranger named Mohsen Naqibi, from Kermanshah, and a local Basij named Abdul Khaliq Darazhi lost their lives. Two Guardsmen named Mohammad Thauri and Shams al-Din Budagh were also wounded.

The IRGC Quds Force did not mention the identity of what it called the "terrorist group" in its statement.

Saravan County is located 335 kilometers southeast of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, and neighboring Pakistan.

The Iranian ambassador to Pakistan told reporters about the terrorist incident: "Iran and Pakistan have good relations, but unfortunately some third parties who are not satisfied with the good relations and bilateral interactions between Iran and Pakistan are trying to damage these relations through some destructive actions."

Iran’s border areas near Pakistan have been the scene of clashes between Iranian military and law enforcement forces and militant groups, most of whom are Baloch militants, for years. Jundallah is the most important Baloch militant group operating in Sistan and Baluchistan, Iran. Abdulmalek Rigi was the group’s most well-known leader, who was arrested in 2009 and executed a few months later.

This conflict also exists on the Pakistani side, and the most important Baloch militant group active in the western regions of Pakistan is called the "Balochistan Liberation Army", which carries out armed operations for the independence of Balochistan. This group is classified as a "terrorist group" by many countries in the world.
