Iranian users were forced to install a local messenger to register their phones.

According to the new regulations of the Iranian Customs Company, users who intend to receive a mobile phone registration code must install the internal messenger "WE".

This little-known messenger operates under the supervision of the "Sami's Intelligent Applied Systems" company affiliated with the University of Tehran, and some managers from the Iranian Ministry of Economy have also held management positions in this company.

According to the technology news website Zoomit, in addition to imposing this mandatory approach on citizens, "the Iranian government had previously forced various organizations and institutions to migrate and run all administrative documents and business-related systems on native platforms to improve the level of security in cyberspace."

In recent years, the Iranian government has attempted to replace these messaging services by filtering Telegram and Signal and allocating tens of billions of tomans to support domestic messaging services, but the results of numerous polls indicate that this costly project will fail.

According to the latest survey published in September this year by the ISPA polling institute affiliated with the Academic Jihad, only 1.8% of people use domestic messengers such as Soroush and Rubika.

On the other hand, the latest report by the Statistical Center of Iran, published in September of this year, shows that despite Telegram being filtered in Iran for about four years, 45 million Iranians are members of this messenger and send 15 billion messages on this social network daily.
