The Center for Human Rights Defenders wrote a letter to the UN calling for the prevention of the repression of protesters in Khuzestan.

On Sunday, July 17, the Center for Human Rights Defenders sent a letter to Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, emphasizing the violence against protesters in Khuzestan and calling on this international body to use all its resources and capacities to prevent the continuation of repression.
In its letter, this Iranian human rights organization expressed concern about the "continuation and further complication" of the situation, referring to the killing and injury of a number of protesters and their arrests.
Copies of this letter have been sent to Javed Rehman, UN Special Rapporteur on Iran, Agnes Callamard, UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial killings, Clement Woolley, UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, as well as the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
Confirmed reports indicate that following the continuation of widespread protests in more than 17 cities in Khuzestan province, at least two protesting citizens, Mustafa Naimawi, 30, and Qasem Khuzairi, 17, were shot dead by security forces.
Some local sources say the death toll has reached four, but this figure has not yet been officially confirmed.
Khuzestan Province is experiencing one of its hottest summers this year, and in recent weeks, rising temperatures in the province have caused government offices in most cities in Khuzestan to close several times.
In recent weeks, protest rallies against power outages and water shortages have taken place in various parts of Iran.
