“70 to 80 percent reduction” in nut sales in Tehran

Mostafa Ahmadi, head of the Tehran Nuts and Dried Fruits Union, says that based on reports from wholesalers and retailers across the city, it can be said that nut sales have declined by 70 to 80 percent ahead of Nowruz.

The head of Tehran’s dried fruits and nuts union, pointing to a 70 to 80 percent reduction in the production of pistachios, walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts in the current year, added that approximately 30 percent of the price increases of these products are due to rising currency rates, and a significant portion of the price increases stem from reduced production of these products due to frost damage to orchards in the current year.

The Reporters Club reported in this news story that the decline in people’s purchasing power is not limited to nuts alone and is also noticeable in other market sectors, including clothing.
