Corona in Iran – The possibility of Hormozgan becoming the "Gateway to the Fifth Peak" and the risk of measles outbreak in Iran

Statistics from the Iranian Ministry of Health show that 9,994 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the country from June 25 to June 26. Also, 165 more people died from the virus in the past 24 hours.

Many are skeptical about the accuracy of official statistics, and even the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly announced that the actual number of infections and deaths is many times higher than the official figures.

 

  • 40 billion tomans in damage to the tourism industry

The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Industries says that the coronavirus outbreak has caused more than 40 billion tomans in damage to tourism.

Meanwhile, Hassan Rouhani has also said that as the current vaccination process continues, the impact of investment on the tourism industry will be seen before the end of the year.

Statistics from the Ministry of Health show that 3,499,563 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far.

 

  • Judicial action against violators of health protocols during elections

Jamal Araf, head of the country's election headquarters, said that violating health protocols is considered an electoral violation and that violators will be dealt with legally.

He said there are 33,000 electronic cash registers in the country that have "no security problems."

The National Anti-Corona Headquarters has extended the election hours to hold the presidential election under the Corona situation and announced that voting will be possible from 7:00 AM to 2:00 AM the next day.

Alireza Raisi, spokesman for the National Headquarters for Combating Coronavirus, also said that people infected with coronavirus will also be able to vote on the move.

 

  • The risk of measles outbreak in the country

Seyyed Mohsen Zahraei, head of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Department of the Ministry of Health, announced the identification of measles cases in Sistan and Baluchestan, Khorasan, Hormozgan, and Alborz.

In total, 24 measles cases have been observed in these provinces.

According to Mr. Zahrai, the reason for the measles outbreak is the disruption in vaccination due to the spread of the coronavirus.

  • Hormozgan likely to become the gateway to the fifth wave of coronavirus

With the beginning of June, the situation in Hormozgan province in terms of the spread of the coronavirus worsened. According to official statistics, a positive coronavirus test is confirmed in the province every two minutes.

Also, on June 24, Hormozgan broke the record for coronavirus hospitalizations in the last eleven months by recording 494 hospitalizations in one day.

Fatemeh Norouzian, spokesperson for Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, says that about 40 flights are made daily from this province, which could be one of the reasons for the spread of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the governor of Bandar Abbas announced a one-week quarantine of 32 villages and five district centers in the city due to the high spread of the coronavirus.

Health experts are concerned that this province will become the "fifth coronavirus gateway" in the country.
