Coronavirus in Iran; 77 cities in red status and all medical centers on alert

As the number of coronavirus hospitalizations in Iran increased by more than 60% in a week, the Ministry of Health announced the readiness of all medical centers in the country to deal with the sixth wave of the disease.

According to Kamal Heidari, Deputy Minister of Health of the Ministry of Health, since in recent days we have witnessed an upward trend in the number of infected people due to the spread of the coronavirus and its new strains, "all personnel and units providing first-level services, including comprehensive health service centers, health bases, and health homes, have been declared on alert."

A member of the National Scientific Committee on Covid-19 also predicted that in the coming days, "the daily number of Omicron cases will reach 300,000 to 400,000, provided that testing is carried out."

Payam Tabarsi has warned that with the increase in cases, "a number of patients will definitely need to be hospitalized, which could become a challenge for the country's health system."

He considered the peak period of Amicron to be between one month and 45 days and said: "The Amicron statistics will increase and we must help control the disease by imposing restrictions."

According to the Ministry of Health's Public Relations Center, 77 cities are currently in red status, 179 counties in orange status, 181 cities in yellow status, and 11 cities in blue status.

According to Mizan News Agency, in the second week of the sixth wave of Corona, the number of new hospitalizations reached 18,435. The previous week, the number of new hospitalizations was 11,246.

According to this report, this week's new hospitalization figures have increased by 64% compared to the previous week, with a growth of 7,189.

The report adds that the 7,189-step acceleration in the second week of the wave is unprecedented since the beginning of 2020.

Experts are calling for a complete closure of government offices, private companies, banks, any gatherings and ceremonies, in-person education, and non-essential businesses for two weeks in order to pass the new peak of the disease in Iran.

However, ISNA news agency wrote on Wednesday that despite the warnings, no specific restrictions have yet been imposed, especially on the presence of employees, to control the current situation.

The report said: "While inquiries from some organizations show that in recent times, due to the rapid spread of Emicron, the number of employees infected has not been low, organizations have not yet resorted to teleworking and full attendance is mandatory. The reason why organizations have not entered teleworking is also the lack of official notification from the government or relevant organizations."
