"Human Rights Campaign in Iran" calls for Arash Sadeghi's release from prison

The Human Rights Campaign in Iran called on Iranian government officials to release political prisoner Arash Sadeghi in a statement, saying he "requires immediate and ongoing medical care."
Hadi Ghaemi, director of the Human Rights Campaign in Iran, said in a statement released on Tuesday, October 1, that Arash Sadeghi "should not have been imprisoned in the first place," adding that the Iranian Prisons Organization and judiciary have a duty to "ensure that there are appropriate conditions for all prisoners and detainees," but that these institutions "have a poor record in protecting prisoners, including Arash Sadeghi."
Arash Sadeghi’s family had previously announced that he had been diagnosed with “chondrosarcoma, a malignant tumor that can lead to cancer.” The tumor was diagnosed in July of this year, but prison officials have “prevented him from receiving medical and specialized care” outside the prison. Arash Sadeghi was returned to Rajai Shahr prison after samples were taken, and his hand infection has worsened.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch recently called for his immediate transfer to the hospital to diagnose a suspected cancerous tumor.
The denial of full medical care had previously worsened the medical conditions of some prisoners, including political prisoner Alireza Rajai, whose doctors were forced to remove part of his face and remove one of his eyes after he was released from prison due to cancer.
Arash Sadeghi was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court on charges of gathering and colluding against internal security, insulting the leadership, forming illegal groups, and propagandizing against the system. The court judge also implemented the 4-year suspended sentence of the 32-year-old prisoner.
Arash Sadeghi, 32, is serving a 15-year prison sentence for his peaceful human rights activities.
