Covid-19 in Iran: "64 Ahvaz firefighters infected and one person died"

The Ahvaz Municipality Fire Department has confirmed that at least 64 of its personnel have been infected with the novel coronavirus, and one firefighter has also lost his life.

On Sunday, the official daily death toll in Iran exceeded 100 for the first time in two months, while Islamic Republic officials say the situation in the provinces of Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Khorasan Razavi, and Bushehr is red.

ISNA news agency quoted Ebrahim Qanbari, head of the Ahvaz Fire Department, as saying on the morning of June 16 that 12 of the organization's infected people have recovered, four are hospitalized, and the rest are in quarantine at home.

The Ahvaz municipality official also stated that the condition of the four firefighters who are in the hospital is "not critical."

According to the head of the Ahvaz Fire Department, the lack of protective equipment has affected the upward trend in the spread of the virus among firefighters.

Mr. Ghanbari also reminded that firefighters live in stations and share dormitories, beds, kitchens, and even some respiratory masks and firefighting equipment; therefore, the infection of one person poses a risk of infecting others.

At the same time, while helping to put out the fire, they may be in crowded places and become infected with COVID-19.

The official number of Ahwazi firefighters infected with COVID-19 has increased at least 2.5 times over the past month.
