Eleven citizens of Amol, namely Ali Shokri, Azadeh Javani, Alireza Mohammadnejad, Aidin Javani, Fereshteh Mahmoudi, Hossein Mostafa Nia, Meysam Khodabandehlou, Hamid Mohammadi Irani, Amin Forouhi, Mohammadreza Shoja, and Aida Javani, who were arrested during the protests in January 2019, have been sentenced to a total of 88 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court.
According to the Human Rights in Iran website and based on the issued court order, the prison sentence for these citizens living in Amol was issued in absentia by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of this city on Sunday, May 27, by Judge Morteza Mahdavi and was notified to them on Monday, May 28.
According to the verdict, each of these citizens has been sentenced to 8 months in prison on the charge of "propaganda activity against the regime."
It should be noted that this report does not provide information regarding the time of arrest or release of these individuals.
According to this report, the sentence was issued due to the presence of these citizens in the protests in January of last year in the main square of Amol city, following the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 by a missile attack by the Revolutionary Guards, killing 176 passengers on board.
Previously, the Voice of America had announced in a report quoting the Human Rights in Iran website that five other citizens of Amol who were arrested during these protests were sentenced to six months in prison each on Tuesday, May 2, in separate cases by the city's Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mahdavi, on charges of "propaganda against the system." The verdict was delivered to these individuals on Wednesday, May 2.
Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, which was en route from Tehran to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on January 8, 2020 with 176 passengers, crashed minutes after taking off due to a missile attack by the Revolutionary Guard near the new city of Parand in Tehran province, killing all of its passengers, who were mostly Iranians.
