Washington Post reports on the consequences of the Iranian government's delay in announcing the outbreak of the coronavirus

According to the Washington Post, the Iranian government's delay and slowness in informing the public about the spread of the coronavirus has been criticized by medical sources, families of those infected with the virus, and activists.

The Washington Post, in a detailed article citing evidence its reporters obtained through reports from medical sources in Iran and survivors of the disease, says the government was slow and delayed in warning the public.
The Washington Post quotes a young architecture student hospitalized who says that the awareness campaign came too late and by then many people had already been infected with the virus.
According to statistics from global sources, Iran has the worst situation in the Middle East in terms of the spread of the coronavirus.
Government offices outside Tehran have reopened today, and businesses outside the capital have also begun operating, but offices and businesses based in Tehran are expected to reopen in a week.

Voice of America had previously reported that the Islamic Republic's own reporting and cover-up, in which several government officials and senior management have also been infected with the coronavirus, has faced a lot of criticism both inside and outside the country. Government officials, who announced the news of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran late and only after the parliamentary elections, instead of quarantining cities and closing religious places, like other countries struggling with the spread of the virus, have only said that the coronavirus should be taken seriously and asked people not to leave their homes.

Previously, on Monday, April 25, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a statement titled "Khamenei's lies about the Wuhan virus are endangering people's lives," made statements about the Iranian regime's lies and cover-ups regarding the coronavirus.

The United States has repeatedly condemned mismanagement, institutionalized financial corruption, and the plundering of Iranian assets by the regime's affiliates, calling them among the main causes of Iran's problems and the poor welfare of its people. Not long ago, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted about the Islamic Republic's officials that they were involved in corruption instead of helping the people.
