A human rights center filed a complaint against Iranian officials at the Hague court for "crimes committed" in Syria.

The Iranian Human Rights Documentation Center filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court against the Iranian government and the Revolutionary Guard Corps regarding the Islamic Republic's role in the Syrian civil war.
In this complaint, which was made public on Wednesday, February 17, the Hague court has been asked to investigate the role of the Islamic Republic and armed groups supported by the Iranian government in "crimes committed" in Syria.
This is the first time that such a complaint has been filed against Islamic Republic officials.
The Iranian Human Rights Documentation Center has accused the Islamic Republic of aiding and abetting "specific crimes against humanity and against Syrian civilians," "expulsion," "torture," and other "inhumane acts" in Syria.
The request submitted to the International Criminal Court includes evidence collected from Syrian refugees living in Jordan.
These Syrian citizens have provided documentation stating that forces affiliated with the Islamic Republic, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Fatemiyoun Division, and the Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas Division, have forced these citizens to leave their cities and homelands by carrying out military attacks on cities.
According to reports, there are currently more than 650,000 Syrian citizens in Jordan who have fled the violence caused by the war.
As announced by the Iranian Human Rights Documentation Center, this request has been submitted to the International Criminal Court based on Article 15 of the Rome Statute.
Although Syria is not a party to the Rome Statute, human rights lawyers argue that the case falls within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court due to the presence of the victims in Jordan, which is a party to the treaty.
Gisounia, a lawyer and chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Human Rights Documentation Center, said in this regard: "The IRGC's Quds Force has been involved in Syria for the past decade and has committed numerous war crimes in the cities of Homs, Hama, Daraa, and the suburbs of Damascus."
The popular protests in Syria, which began in 2011, turned into a civil war with the suppression of the Bashar al-Assad government and the intervention of some foreign countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, in which hundreds of thousands of Syrian civilians have been killed and millions displaced.
During the eleven years that Syria has been in turmoil, Western countries have repeatedly accused Tehran of military intervention in the country and of guiding and supporting some militant groups.
Islamic Republic officials have always denied these accusations and have described their presence in Syria as providing advisory assistance.
This is despite the fact that in recent years, numerous reports have been published about the killing of IRGC forces in Syria.
