Statement by the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians on Iran’s Protests and Responses to It

In a statement by the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians regarding Iran’s protests, international and Christian media have reported widespread coverage of repression and humanitarian crisis.

The Global Coalition of Iranian Christians, which was formed in 2025 with the aim of strengthening solidarity and defending the rights of Iranian Christians, has responded to the suppression of nationwide protests in Iran in its latest statement. This statement, which expresses the coalition’s deep concern about the lack of justice, violation of human dignity, and deprivation of civil rights, has received widespread coverage in international and Christian media outlets.

The statement reads as follows:

“We, the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians, express our deep concerns regarding the suppression of nationwide protests that began on December 28, 2025 in our homeland, Iran. These protests, as the evidence shows, are not merely the result of pressure and livelihood problems, but are rooted in a systematic lack of justice and represent a far deeper crisis. Protest is a fundamental right of citizens who find themselves distant from or deprived of justice, human dignity, and genuine participation in determining their own fate.

The pressure from renewed international sanctions, continuous shortage of energy resources such as gas and electricity, intensification of the water shortage crisis, sharp increases in living costs, and continued deprivation of fundamental socio-political freedoms have targeted the human dignity of citizens.

We express our sincerest condolences to the families and survivors of those who lost their lives in these protests and mourn with all those grieving. We emphasize the necessity of solidarity among the Iranian people, care for one another, and joint standing in the pursuit of justice and human dignity. We call upon Iranian Christians to engage in prayer, responsible reflection, and conscious action so that, guided by faith and their moral conscience, they may find ways to support justice, protect human lives, and stand alongside those who suffer. Our hope remains that Iran can move toward a bright future based on justice, compassion, and respect for the rights of all citizens.”

Following the publication of the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians’ statement, international media outlets and analysts have provided extensive coverage of the situation in Iran and this coalition’s message:

  • International news media have described the protests in Iran as one of the largest protest movements in recent years and have addressed its consequences. The Guardian has reported that the protests began with an economic crisis and escalated into demands for broader changes against political repression.
  • Global news networks have also pointed to violence in dealing with protesters and an increase in the death toll, which reinforces the coalition’s statement in terms of warning about violations of human dignity.
  • Human rights groups and independent media have also criticized violations of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, issues that have been addressed in the statement of the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians as well. These reflections show that the coalition’s concerns fall within the framework of global perspectives on human rights.

This statement has also received attention in the Christian media sphere:

  • Some international Christian media outlets have referenced the statement of the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians and highlighted it as the voice of the Christian community in defense of human dignity, justice, and religious freedoms. These media outlets emphasize that the coalition’s concerns are not merely a reaction to repression, but represent a moral and religious ethical call to support human rights.
  • Additionally, Christian media in their analyses have described the Iranian crisis not only as economic and political, but also as human and moral; an emphasis that aligns precisely with the content of the coalition’s statement.

The statement by the Global Coalition of Iranian Christians regarding Iran’s protests, emphasizing human dignity, defense of justice, and peaceful freedoms of the people, has received significant reflection not only in the Iranian diaspora community, but also in international and Christian media outlets. These reflections demonstrate that the concerns raised in the statement fall within the framework of global analyses of Iran’s crisis and have also brought non-religious and international support for human rights and civil liberties.
