Maduro: Extreme Right-Wing Zionists Want to Hand Venezuela Over to Devils

“Nicolas Maduro” in remarks laced with biblical metaphors claimed that Venezuela stands in a divine battle against “extreme right-wing Zionists” and “American Goliath.”

Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela, in a recent speech that once again displayed his religious and contentious tone, warned of escalating regional tensions and claimed that forces he refers to as “extreme right-wing Zionists” intend to hand his country over to devils.

Maduro, who appeared on Saturday, November 22, before the “United Bolivarian Committees,” in a heated atmosphere criticized United States policies and described himself as a commander in a battle in which, according to him, Venezuela plays the role of “David” against the “American Goliath.”

In part of his remarks, Maduro, emphasizing that a conspiracy against his country is underway, said: “There are those who want to hand this country over to devils; you know well who they are. Extreme Zionists intend to surrender this land to devils.” He then asked: “Who will prevail? The people of David, the people of God and followers of Bolivar, or the devils of imperialism?”

Venezuela’s president, drawing on images from the Bible, once again positioned his country in the place of King David, a symbol of a small nation but supported by God. He emphasized: “We are the people of David against Goliaths whom we have defeated before in history and, God willing, we will face them again.”

He then claimed that Venezuela is a deeply Christian nation and described the increase in U.S. military activities in the Caribbean Sea, including that country’s action against ships suspected of drug smuggling, as “an action against Christians.” Maduro said: “I place our Lord Jesus Christ at the forefront of this battle; the one to whom our homeland has been entrusted. I know Jesus of Nazareth, that little child and Palestinian martyr, as the commander-in-chief of the forces in the battle for peace and the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people.”

In another part of the ceremony, he addressed the American people (this time in English) and asked them to say no to war. The broadcasting of “Imagine” by “John Lennon” and Maduro dancing on stage transformed the atmosphere of the ceremony into a scene combining political messages, religious symbols, and media spectacles.

Concurrent with Maduro’s remarks, some student groups in America, with anti-Israeli positions, have also analyzed recent developments in the Caribbean in connection with “Zionist influence.” Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) designated Friday as “National Day of Action to Dismantle Imperialism and Zionism.”

This student group considered U.S. operations against drug cartels as a form of “imperialist expansionism” and wrote in its statement: “As students participating in the struggle for Palestinian freedom, we view these attacks as part of the same mechanism that arms the Zionist regime to commit genocide against the Palestinian people.” They added that their struggle is part of a global battle against imperialism and that striking at institutions within the belly of this monster can weaken the chain that, according to them, “reinforces the occupation of Palestine.”
