Marco Rubio Warns of Iran’s Role in Regional Instability

“Marco Rubio” emphasized Iran’s ancient culture while holding Ali Khamenei responsible for exporting revolution and threatening Middle Eastern stability.
Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, warned against the Islamic Republic’s actions in the region during a meeting with his counterparts from Gulf Cooperation Council member states held yesterday, Wednesday, September 24, coinciding with Mehr 2, in New York. He stated: “Iran poses a serious threat to stability and security in the region through its destabilizing policies in Syria, Lebanon, and other parts of the Middle East.”
Rubio, while alluding to Iran’s long-term presence in Syria and support for Bashar al-Assad’s government, described this approach as one of the principal factors of instability in the region. He also emphasized the importance of developments in Syria, adding that the fate of this country will have a direct impact on the future of the region’s security.
The U.S. Secretary of State, in another section of his remarks, announced Washington’s efforts to support the formation of a strong government in Lebanon; a government that, according to him, should remain free from the influence of the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah and reflect the political and social diversity of the country.
Rubio, while praising Iran’s rich culture and history, accused the Islamic Republic’s leaders of pursuing the export of revolution and creating instability instead of improving the conditions of their country’s people. He warned that the United States will not allow the Islamic Republic to obtain weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons.
