Israeli Army Attacks Evin Prison and Other Targets in Northern Tehran

Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced a targeted attack on Evin Prison and several locations in northern Tehran.
According to reports published, on Monday, June 23, corresponding to Ordibehesht 2, Israel targeted a number of security and military institutions of the Islamic Republic, including Evin Prison, Basij headquarters, Sepahe Syed al-Shohada, Tharallah headquarters, Sepah Alborz, Information Protection of Police Force Command, and the Police Force Intelligence headquarters.
Israel’s Defense Minister posted a message on the social media platform X stating: “Following the directives of Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Defense Minister, the Israeli army is now attacking regime targets and state repressive institutions in the heart of Tehran with unprecedented force, including Basij headquarters, Evin Prison for political prisoners and regime opponents, and the ‘Destruction of Israel’ countdown.”
The Israeli army also released images and videos showing a “precision” attack on the entrance gate of Evin Prison in northern Tehran. As a result of this attack, the administrative building, the visitation building, and the Evin courthouse were targeted and destroyed. Simultaneously, explosions occurred near Tehran’s Takhti Stadium. The “Destruction of Israel” countdown that was installed in Palestine Square was also destroyed in the Israeli attack.
According to Israeli army statements, in the attack on the entrance gate of Evin Prison, which is one of the symbols of the Islamic Republic’s repression, no damage was caused to the buildings where prisoners are held, as this was a “precision” attack.
“Abolsaleh Ghadiani,” a political prisoner, informed his son “Ahmad” in a phone call that all windows in Block 4, where political and security prisoners are held, have been broken. “Ahmad Ghadiani” also posted on the social media platform X stating: “My father called from Evin Prison. Evin Prison has been attacked and all the windows in the block are broken. As far as I know, the medical facility was also damaged and some said the entrance gate of the prison was hit. Does the Islamic Republic really want to keep this many political prisoners, many of whom are sick, in prison? What crime and folly is this?”
Ahmad Ghadiani also added: “My father has a packed bag for prison, so whenever he is released home, he can take his bag and go with the prison guards. Today I saw him lightening the bag. It’s not a large bag and everything in it is prison essentials and of course a large amount of medicine. The old man no longer has the strength to carry it, but he doesn’t want the prison operator to help him with it.”
Many families of political prisoners and local residents, following the attack on Evin Prison, are trying to reach Evin Prison to help the prisoners, and even individuals with limited internet access have posted messages on social networks requesting families whose relatives are in Evin Prison to head toward the prison.
Fares News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, announced hours earlier in a report that Evin Prison was targeted by a drone or limited explosive operation.
Tharallah headquarters, an institution for dealing with security crises and belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in Tehran operating under the command of the Guard Corps commander, was also among the other targets of the Israeli attack on this day. A Guard Corps base in Alborz Province was also targeted by the Israeli attack.
