Death of ‘Inah Canabarou Lucas,’ the Oldest Person in the World

“Inah Canabarou Lucas,” a Brazilian nun and the oldest person in the world, passed away at the age of 116.

Inah Lucas, a Brazilian nun, was born on June 8, 1908, in southern Brazil. She was extremely frail in childhood to the extent that there was little hope she would survive, but she joined the convent at the age of 26.

The “Sisters of Mercy” Church in Porto Alegre, Brazil, released a statement yesterday confirming her death, and while expressing appreciation for Inah Canabarou’s dedication and sacrifice throughout her life, they announced her passing. She was 116 years and 326 days old at the time of her death.

“Robert Young,” the director of the GRG (Gerontology Research Group), confirmed according to official documents that her birth on June 8, 1908, and added: “Ms. Lucas had previously claimed her birth date was May 27, 1908.” She had repeatedly stated in the past that the secret to her longevity was faith in God.

Inah Lucas is recognized as the fifteenth oldest person documented in history and the second oldest nun after “Lucile Randon,” a French nun.
