America’s Most Successful Opening in Religious Animation History with Jesus Christ Life Animation

America experienced the most successful opening in the history of religious animated films with an animation depicting the life of Jesus Christ.
America concluded a prosperous weekend with the screening of the animated film “King of Kings,” achieving sales equivalent to 19 million dollars for its religious cinema. This opening marked the most successful opening in American history among religious animated films.
The aforementioned animation, titled “King of Kings,” presents a different narrative of the life of Jesus Christ, told from the perspective of Charles Dickens to his son. With this opening, the animation succeeded in breaking the record of the famous animation “The Prince of Egypt,” which was produced in 1998.
This animation also succeeded in obtaining an A+ score from CinemaScore, which only 128 films in history had achieved, and only 5 animations outside of Pixar and Disney productions have managed to receive it.
Beyond this achievement and record-breaking success, two new episodes from the fifth season of the selected religious series “The Last Supper” also ranked among the top 10 highest-grossing films of the week. The second episode of this series in its fifth season was screened last week, earning 932 thousand dollars, while its third episode, with sales of 6 million dollars across 2,296 theaters, ranked 6th.
The global distribution manager of Angel Studios commented on the screening of religious animations: “Angel Guild always chooses winners. We simply listen to our audience and follow their desires. Families are looking for quality films that they can watch together in cinemas, and the reception of the King of Kings animation is evidence of this very need.”
Religious animations, which were dubbed the driving force of this year’s box office in America, comprised 4 of the top 10 highest-grossing films of last year, demonstrating that the combination of religious stories in animation form is extremely popular among viewers. The film Jonah also earned 6.2 million dollars, and the film The Star earned 9.8 million dollars, serving as pioneers of religious genres.
The progression of this trend indicates that religious cinema, particularly in the form of animation, holds a highly significant position at American box offices.
