“Butch Wilmore”: Used Opportunity at Space Station to Study God’s Word

Astronaut Butch Wilmore spoke about his experience studying God’s word at the space station and strengthening his faith in Jesus Christ.

“Butch Wilmore” and “Suni Williams,” two American astronauts, traveled to the International Space Station in June 2024 aboard the “Starliner” capsule, which belonged to Boeing. However, during the journey, the propulsion system experienced technical failure and helium leakage, and NASA, as a precautionary measure, delayed their return.

NASA subsequently announced that because the return flight with Starliner could be dangerous, the capsule must return to Earth unmanned and empty. As a result of this return, Williams and Wilmore became stranded at the International Space Station. They were scheduled to have an 8-day mission in space and then return to Earth, but due to this technical malfunction, they ultimately remained in space for 286 days.

They eventually returned to Earth with the help of the “Crew Dragon” capsule, which belongs to SpaceX, completing a 17-hour journey after spending 9 months in space. It is worth noting that despite the difficult and challenging conditions these two astronauts faced, they participated in and voted in the U.S. presidential election.

After returning to Earth, Wilmore and Williams held a press conference. In response to journalists’ questions about what lessons they learned during this long journey, Butch Wilmore said: “Honestly, I can say that this experience strengthened my faith in Jesus Christ. God is executing His plan and purpose to demonstrate His glory and greatness throughout the universe, and each of our roles in this journey is important.

I mention this point here because I am confident that He has meticulous oversight of everything. Some events appear only superficially beneficial to humans, and others do not seem particularly pleasant, but from my perspective, all are part of God’s plan and purpose. I took advantage of my stay at the International Space Station to further study and preach the Gospel.”

Williams said in this interview that she missed her husband and two dogs, and Wilmore also stated that he was most eager to see his wife and three children.
