German Foreign Ministry Prevents Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi from Attending Munich Security Conference

Germany’s Foreign Ministry prevented Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi from attending the Munich Security Conference.
Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi posted on social media platform X on Thursday, February 6, 2025, corresponding to the 18th of Bahman, stating that the German Foreign Ministry prevented his attendance at the Munich Security Conference. In his post, he wrote: “I was pleased to be invited to participate in this important security conference during this critical period for change in Iran, but the intervention of the German Foreign Ministry has prevented my attendance.”
The Munich Security Conference held its 61st annual session this year. The conference was attended by leaders and heads of 60 countries, 150 ministers, and major international organizations. This assembly has been operating as a non-governmental organization since 1963, and its annual conference has become the largest gathering of major decision-makers in international security policy.
During 1401 (2022-2023), when Iran was experiencing nationwide protests and the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, as well as protests by thousands of Iranians in Berlin, this security conference had invited Masih Alinejad and Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi to participate. In the 2023 conference, when opponents of the Islamic Republic were invited, Iran and Russia were absent, and former President Ibrahim Raisi criticized the Munich Security Conference for inviting critics of the Islamic Republic.
Now, as the security conference was being held in Munich and Crown Prince Pahlavi had been invited to participate, Germany’s Foreign Ministry intervened to prevent his attendance at the event.
In response to this prohibition, Crown Prince Pahlavi posted a message on X stating: “A decision has been made in Berlin to marginalize the Iranian people, silence their voices, and appease the Islamic Republic. During this critical period for change in Iran, I was pleased to be invited to participate in the Munich Security Conference, but the German Foreign Ministry’s intervention has prevented my attendance. This action by Germany’s Foreign Ministry places this country on the wrong side of history. While the German government continues its policy of appeasement with the Islamic Republic, I call on the German people to stand with Iranians fighting for human rights and democracy, not only for Iran’s freedom but for their own future. Together with my compatriots, I will continue my campaign for the liberation of Iran and the world from the grip of a regime that has held humanity hostage for years through extortion and terror. This decision was not to silence my voice, but to silence the voice of the Iranian people. This decision was to silence everyone standing for freedom, justice, and dignity, and we will not surrender to it.
Despite all efforts to silence the voice of the Iranian people at this conference, I will travel to Munich, because although we seek friends and allies in foreign capitals for this path, we know that our freedom will only be achieved by our own hands, not by decisions of foreign governments. It is we, the Iranian people, who will determine our own destiny, and we will not rest until we prevail.”
