Seven Executions During International Anti-Death Penalty Week

The Islamic Republic regime executed seven people over two days during International Anti-Death Penalty Week.

While several weeks have passed since protests by people inside and outside Iran, as well as prisoner strikes in opposition to executions, the Islamic Republic regime continues to execute individuals, some of whom lack solid legal grounds for their executions.

On Wednesday, October 9th, exactly one day after the international “No to Death Penalty” day, two prisoners in Chubindar Prison in Qazvin, who had previously been sentenced to death on murder charges, had their sentences carried out.

On the same day, death sentences were also carried out for three prisoners in Karaj Central Prison, who had previously been sentenced to death on murder charges in separate cases. The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed as “Majid Afruz,” 52 years old, “Mohammad Mashmul,” and “Ibrahim Sadegh.”

In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 10th, two prisoners in Urmia Prison named “Ali Ansari” and “Asad Farhang” from Saqqez, who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, were executed. Ali Ansari had been detained over the past three years on drug-related charges and was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

According to annual statistics from the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), from October 10, 2023 to October 8, 2024, approximately 811 executions took place in Iranian prisons, including 4 juvenile offenders, representing approximately a 23.06 percent increase compared to the same period in previous years. It should be noted that 4 of these executions were carried out in public.

As of the publication of this report, prison officials and relevant authorities have not announced news of these prisoners’ executions.
