The high-profile competition, which had captured the world’s attention over recent months, now witnesses the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States for the second time. This contentious race initially pitted Trump against Joe Biden, the current U.S. president, but after Biden withdrew from the competition, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden’s vice president, became the Democratic Party’s final nominee and competed against Donald Trump.
Presidential election candidates needed to secure at least 270 electoral votes to enter the White House. Donald Trump won this election by obtaining 292 votes compared to Kamala Harris’s 224 votes, and will sit in the presidential chair of the United States in the White House for the second time. His official presidential term will begin on January 20, 2025.
With Trump’s victory in this competition, Republicans also gained control of the U.S. Senate for the first time in four years by securing 51 seats.
