“Hasti Amiri” and “Zia Nabavi” Transferred to Evin Prison to Serve Their Sentences

“Hasti Amiri” and “Zia Nabavi,” two students at Allameh Tabataba’i University, were transferred to Evin Prison today to serve their sentences.

Zia Nabavi announced on Tuesday, Farvardin 14, 1403, by posting an image of a notification issued by Branch One of the Enforcement of Sentences Department of Evin Prosecutor’s Office on social media that he and Ms. Hasti Amiri would appear at the said branch on Saturday, Farvardin 18. This morning on Saturday, Farvardin 18, after reporting to Branch One of the Enforcement of Sentences Department of Evin Prosecutor’s Office, they were detained and transferred to Evin Prison to serve their one-year prison sentences.

The two students were charged in connection with a gathering on Esfand 16, 1401, at Allameh Tabataba’i University in protest against the poisoning of students in schools. In Ordibehesht 1402, Ms. Amiri and Mr. Nabavi were informed of their charges at Evin Prosecutor’s Office, and their court hearing was held on Tir 19, 1402, in Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court.

In Mordad 1402, they were each sentenced to one year of imprisonment by Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on charges of “propaganda against the state.” The verdict was confirmed exactly several days later by Branch 26 of the Tehran Province Court of Appeals.

Hasti Amiri and Zia Nabavi received a notification on Esfand 15, 1402, for the enforcement of their prison sentence. Following negotiations by their lawyers, the execution of their sentences was postponed until after the Nowruz holidays. Finally, today on Farvardin 18, after reporting to Branch One of the Enforcement of Sentences Department of Evin Prosecutor’s Office, they were detained and transferred to Evin Prison to serve their sentences.

Mr. Nabavi and Ms. Amiri have previously been detained and faced legal proceedings due to their activities. The Islamic Republic system, which has historically deprived people of freedom of expression, right to protest, freedom of thought, and so forth and subjected them to harassment and persecution, has intensified repression, harassment, and mistreatment of the Iranian people and the issuance of prison sentences since nationwide protests began. The system has imprisoned Iranian citizens without sufficient evidence and documentation based on unfounded pretexts and issued heavy sentences against them; however, it abstains from investigating cases of economic corruption, crimes, assault, embezzlement by officials, and similar cases.
