Eighth Fighter Base in Isfahan Targeted by Israeli Attack

Isfahan’s Eighth Fighter Base was targeted in an Israeli attack.

Early Friday morning on the 31st of Farvardin, reports were transmitted of massive explosion sounds heard in Isfahan, following which American media, citing informed officials, reported an Israeli missile attack on a target or targets in Iran, including an air base near Isfahan.

Iranian officials formally did not confirm the claims of American officials regarding missile launches by Israel against Iran and claimed that Isfahan’s air defense targeted several drones and suspicious objects.

Isfahan Fighter Base is one of 17 active air bases of the Islamic Republic Army, which due to its location in one of the most central points of Iran, is referred to as the “heart of the country’s air defense.” This base hosts three fighter squadrons and two training squadrons, including the 81st Fighter Squadron with F-14s, the Su-35 Fighter Squadron, and the F-7 Fighter Squadron from the Air Force squadrons, for this reason it is not far-fetched that this base was targeted by Israel for retaliatory action.

“Farzin Nadimi,” a defense and security analyst at the Washington Institute, said in this regard: “Isfahan is a sensitive area in every respect. In addition to nuclear centers, the Army’s Eighth Fighter Air Base and the IRGC’s Badr Air Base are located in Isfahan. Moreover, several industrial defense industry sites are located in Isfahan, and IRGC missile sites are also located south and southeast of Isfahan. The action carried out early this Friday morning on the 31st of Farvardin was conducted specifically in Isfahan and was carried out in such a manner that Iran could, in a way, remove the responsibility of responding from its shoulders.”
