Celebration of 2024 New Year in Armenian-populated Jolfa Neighborhood

Christian citizens gathered at St. Prkich (Vank) Church in the Armenian-populated Jolfa neighborhood to celebrate the New Year ceremony.
Vank Church is one of the historic Armenian churches in Isfahan’s Jolfa neighborhood. The church was built during the reign of Shah Abbas II, and was given the name Vank, which means “monastery” in Armenian.
Every year, as the birth of Jesus Christ approaches and the New Year begins, Isfahan’s Jolfa neighborhood takes on a special appearance and atmosphere. This area welcomes many Armenians and tourists during Christmas and New Year’s, who visit Vank Church.
Last Sunday night, December 10 (December 31, 2023), coinciding with the start of the New Year, the Jolfa area and Vank Church welcomed many guests. Christians and even many Muslim residents gathered in this area and celebrated the beginning of the New Year.
