Bishop Vanya Sergis: Does Modern Man Protect the World or Has He Destroyed It?

“Bishop Vanya Sergis” at a session on the status of Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, asked: Does modern man protect the world or has he destroyed it?

Yesterday, a session titled “The Status of the Virgin Mary” was held with the presence of “Bishop Vanya Sergis,” head of the Apostolic Nunciature of the Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church, and “Yahya Jahangiri,” director of the Office of the Organization of Culture and Communications in Qom, and chaired by “Marzieh Minaei Pour.”

The session was held regarding the status of the Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, in Islam and Christianity, and two Muslim and Christian speakers delivered speeches on this subject. “Bishop Vanya Sergis” regarding Mary’s status said: “Mary was someone who accepted her womanhood as a mission and took pride in her position. Today, the best thing a believing woman can do is to take Mary as her role model. If the women of our time contemplated Mary’s life, they could prevent the destruction of the world.”

He added, referring to the creation of man in the Holy Scripture: “God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to protect it. Does modern man protect the world or has he destroyed it? We have strayed from the divine mission of building up the world. The destruction of the world is because men and women are not in the position that God has determined. Today, the imbalance in the roles of women and men has contributed to the destruction of the world.”

Bishop Vanya Sergis, regarding imbalance and the correct standards of life, added: “Today, balance while being different, especially in Western countries, has been disrupted, and no one properly fulfills their mission. We witness lawlessness, and there is no correct standard for living. Today, humanity must, like Mary, make the best use of the nature that God has given her to make the world beautiful and harmonious. Equality means that man and woman should complement each other, just as they differ spiritually and physically, so in society they must accept this difference and each must strive to properly fulfill their role.”

He concluded his remarks at the session: “Mary is an example of a true believer. Every believer in God should be, like her, submissive without hesitation to divine commands.”
