Priest “Mar Mari Emmanuel” Targeted in Cold Weapon Attack

Priest “Mar Mari Emmanuel” from Australia was targeted in a cold weapon attack by a young man at a church.

On Monday in Sydney, Australia, a teenager targeted priest Mar Mari Emmanuel with a knife, and in this attack, besides the priest, three other people were also injured.

In the past three days, this is the second knife attack that has occurred in Sydney. On Saturday, April 13, following a knife attack, six people were killed and 12 people were injured.

Supporters of Priest Emmanuel gathered outside the church in response to this attack and demanded that the attacker be handed over to them. Police also detained the attacker at the scene for his safety and held him inside the church for some time.

The attack by this young man on the Australian priest took place during a ceremony at the Assyrian Church, and police, calling this attack a terrorist act, announced that the motivation was likely “religious extremism.” Police authorities, through investigations conducted after the mentioned attack, stated that the attacker acted alone.
