“Taheri Akradi”: Patient Clothing in Operating Rooms is Beneath the Dignity of Muslim Women

“Taheri Akradi,” secretary of the Headquarters for Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, stated that the clothing worn by patients in operating rooms is beneath the dignity of Muslim women.

Mohammad Hossein Taheri Akradi, secretary of the Headquarters for Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, announced the design of 12 models of Islamic surgical clothing for female patients in operating rooms, stating that this design is intended to ensure compliance with religious boundaries.

For some time now, the campaign to enjoin good and forbid evil in Iran has intensified, with the issue of hijab being the primary subject of discussion. The Islamic Republic’s handling of individuals who do not comply with it according to religious law has become more severe.

Taheri Akradi, regarding the specialization of organizations based on teachings of chastity and hijab, stated: “These responsibilities and domains have been separated and delegated to them so they can address issues of chastity and hijab, finding examples in both enjoining good and forbidding evil.”

He added: “For example, those working in the field of health and medical services should follow up on the clothing of female patients in operating rooms. Patient clothing in our society is currently not befitting Muslim women. In this regard, various organizations are cooperating with the Headquarters for Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, one of which is the good cooperation of the Social Security Organization in designing 12 models of Islamic surgical clothing for patients in operating rooms to ensure religious boundaries are observed.”

Mohammad Hossein Taheri, while referring to public dissatisfaction with executive agencies, added: “Addressing public complaints and dissatisfaction is one of the most important matters this headquarters pursues as an important campaign to enjoin good. The Headquarters for Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil does not enter the specialized and professional duties of agencies, but presents its suggestions for greater public satisfaction.”

Mohammad Hossein Taheri’s remarks came at a time when the world has witnessed massive killings of Iranian people by the Islamic Republic government in the past year. An event that began with the death of Mahsa Amini, due to mandatory hijab, marking the start of a revolution in which many people—women, men, children, youth, and middle-aged—were killed, detained, imprisoned, tortured, raped, and executed by regime forces.

Currently, the fight against mandatory hijab by the Islamic Republic government and its agents has intensified to the extent that the number of regime plainclothes officers in streets has increased, each harassing and tormenting people in their own way.
