Rap Singer Tomaj Salihi Sentenced to Six Years and Three Months in Prison

Rap singer Tomaj Salihi has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison on charges of “corruption on earth” (Efsad-fil-arz).

According to Reza Ettemadansari, one of Tomaj Salihi’s lawyers, on Monday, July 10, he announced that based on the court’s notification, Tomaj Salihi has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison on charges of corruption on earth.

He continued regarding the verdict issued against him: “According to the issued ruling, only the most severe punishment for Tomaj, which is these six years and three months in prison, including time already served in custody, will be executed. He was also acquitted of charges of insulting the founder of the revolution and the supreme leader, as well as relations with hostile states.”

According to Ms. Ansari, Tomaj’s lawyer, he was transferred today from solitary confinement to a general prison ward. He has been in solitary confinement since his arrest and during eight months of detention, he has only had the opportunity for thirty-minute visits with his lawyers.

Ms. Ettemadi regarding additional penalties against Tomaj stated: “From the date of finalization of the ruling, he will be banned from leaving the country for 2 years and his passport will be revoked. Mr. Salihi will also be prohibited from any music production, composition, and singing activities for a period of 2 years. Another provision of the issued ruling requires him to attend 2 years of behavioral management and skill-building courses held by the social welfare and crime prevention office of the Isfahan prosecutor’s office, which is mandatory. Tomaj Salihi must provide a completion certificate of these courses to the criminal sentence execution unit.”
