Nazanin Boniadi, actress and human rights activist, shared a message on her social media accounts in support of Amnesty International’s campaign, calling for an end to executions in Iran.
In this message, she shared Amnesty International’s request asking for protest letters to be sent to the Iranian embassy office at the European Union headquarters in Belgium.
These protest letters are addressed to Mohseni Ejei and urge the head of Iran’s judiciary to immediately stop the executions of imprisoned protesters in Iran.
Nazanin Boniadi shared a link to this online campaign along with excerpts from Amnesty International’s protest letter on her social media account. The text states: “At least seven people in Iran have been sentenced to death in connection with nationwide protests, and dozens of others are at risk of execution.”
She continued: “The Iranian government has denied protesters their right to fair trial, and many have been subjected to torture and other forms of ill-treatment including flogging, electric shocks, and threats of death and sexual violence.”
In another section, the actress and human rights activist added: “In the wake of the rising number of executions since late April, on May 19, Iranian authorities arbitrarily executed three tortured protesters named Majid Kazemi, Saeid Yaqoubi, and Saleh Mirhashemi, who had been wrongfully convicted, in Isfahan.”
Amnesty International has asked everyone to send this text or their own protest letters to the Iranian embassy office at the European Union headquarters in Belgium and call for an end to executions in Iran.
The mentioned text is in English, but according to the organization, protest letters can be sent in any language to the Iranian embassy office at the European Union. The organization wants protest letters to be sent by July 23.
Majid Kazemi Sheikhshebani, Saeid Yaqoubi Kordsefli, and Saleh Mirhashemi, defendants in the “Isfahan House” case, were executed on the morning of Friday, May 19. These three were charged with the killing of two Basij members and one police officer. This occurred despite the fact that they and their families had repeatedly denied these charges. The three defendants also stated that they were forced to make televised confessions after extensive torture.
A U.S. State Department spokesperson previously stated in a written response to a question from the Persian Service of Voice of America regarding the Biden administration’s reaction to the execution of the three defendants in the “Isfahan House” case: “We condemn in the strongest possible terms the execution of Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashemi, and Saeid Yaqoubi by the Iranian regime, and we stand with the people of Iran in mourning the families of these three.”
The spokesperson announced: “As we have said before, this behavior by the regime shows it has learned no lesson from the protests that began in September of last year. It is no wonder that many young people in Iran are seeking change or are among the many groups leaving the country.”
