Professor Agajari was arrested in June 2000 following an invitation from the Coordination Council of Second Khordad Front groups in Hamadan and after delivering a lecture titled “Islamic Protestantism and Ali Shariati.” He was accused of “insulting Islam and Muslims’ sacred values” and sentenced to death, a sentence that was reduced after two years to three years imprisonment, two years internal exile, and five years ban from teaching.
Hashem Agajari also participated on Friday, corresponding to 1 Ordibehesht, in a two-day virtual meeting on “Clubhouse” titled “Dialogue to Save Iran.” The virtual meeting was held with a total of 42 participants, of whom 23 were from inside Iran and 19 from outside the country.
Security and judicial forces also visited some of the speakers at this virtual conference, including Keyvan Samimi, Alireza Beheshti Shirazi, Abdollah Momeni, Gorban Behzadiannejad, Narges Mohammadi, and Alireza Hosseini Beheshti. Following this, Keyvan Samimi and Alireza Beheshti Shirazi are currently in prison, and a new case has been opened for Narges Mohammadi in Evin Prison.
Reports published today indicate that on the morning of yesterday, Sunday, corresponding to 17 Ordibehesht, Ministry of Intelligence agents went to Agajari’s residence in Tehran in his absence and, after a complete search of his home and personal belongings, asked him to report to the Islamic Revolutionary Court on Wednesday, 20 Ordibehesht.
It should be noted that while the agents were searching his residence, Professor Agajari was teaching at Tarbiat Modares University; however, his laptop and electronic communication equipment were confiscated by the Ministry of Intelligence agents.
