Forced Cancellation of Nika Shakarmeh Memorial Ceremony Under Government Threats

The Islamic Republic government prevented the holding of a memorial ceremony for Nika Shakarmeh, who died during nationwide protests, through threats and intimidation.

Nika Shakarmeh was one of the victims of the nationwide protests in 1401 who was killed by security forces. The regime has thus far prevented memorial services for the deceased through various pretexts and threats against families of the victims, and has even arrested some families.

Nasrin Shakarmeh, Nika’s mother, published a statement on her Instagram page announcing the forced cancellation of Nika’s memorial ceremony. In this statement, Nasrin Shakarmeh declared that the Islamic Republic government fears even the names of our children and has prevented the holding of Nika’s anniversary ceremony at her grave. Nika’s memorial ceremony will be held at the home of her aunt, Atash Shakarmeh.

Atash Shakarmeh also wrote: “Is it possible by destroying the graves of stars to drag them from the sky to the depths of nothingness? You and your friends are the stars of this land.”

The regime and its agents, through pressure and threats against families, arrests and imprisonment, have sought to create fear and terror among the people so they could keep their government afloat, but the people of Iran continue to stand firm for the overthrow of the regime and march forward without any fear.
