Increased Pressure on Nahid Khadajou to Enforce Prison Sentence

Under pressure from security and judicial authorities to enforce the prison sentence of Nahid Khadajou, a member of the board of directors of the Free Union of Iranian Workers, her bank account, into which her pension is deposited, has been blocked. Last month, the judicial authority also sent a final warning to the guarantor of this labor activist regarding the seizure of the deposited collateral. This comes as Ms. Khadajou, due to the critical coronavirus situation in prisons, has refrained from reporting to prison. Nahid Khadajou was previously sentenced to 6 years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court, and the verdict was upheld exactly as issued in the appellate court.
According to Hrana news agency, citing the Free Union of Iranian Workers, under pressure from security and judicial authorities, the bank account of Nahid Khadajou, a member of the board of directors of the Free Union of Iranian Workers, has been blocked. Last month, the judicial authority also sent a final warning to the guarantor of this labor activist regarding the seizure of the deposited collateral.
The increased pressure on Ms. Khadajou is aimed at enforcing her 6-year prison sentence.
This occurs as this labor activist has refrained from reporting to prison due to the critical coronavirus situation in prisons.
Ms. Khadajou was arrested on Ordibehesht 11, 1398 (April 30, 2019), coinciding with International Workers’ Day in front of the Parliament building, and was released on Khordad 13, 1398 (June 3, 2019) after posting bail and pending the completion of legal proceedings.
She was subsequently tried on Mordad 10, 1398 (July 31, 2019) at Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of conspiracy and collusion to act against national security and disrupting public order and peace, and was ultimately sentenced to 6 years in prison and 74 lashes. The verdict issued by the appellate court was upheld exactly as originally sentenced in her and her lawyer’s absence.
Finally, Nahid Khadajou was summoned on Farvardin 27, 1399 (April 16, 2020) to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office Enforcement Bureau to serve her sentence.
