Killing of “Mehdi Farhangiyan,” Conscript Soldier, by Kermanshah Information Protection Revealed

The killing of “Mehdi Farhangiyan,” a conscript soldier residing in Sanandaj, Kermanshah Province, who was killed by the Information Protection unit, has been revealed.

Mehdi Farhangiyan, son of Hamdollah, resident of Sanandaj Kaleiayee City, Kermanshah Province, died under suspicious circumstances in late Azar month.

Mehdi was serving as a police station soldier in the Sanandaj Law Enforcement Service unit, when on the 23rd of Azar he was transferred to the Kermanshah Information Protection unit.

According to news reports published on social media pages, Mehdi was in contact with his family until 10 p.m. on the day of his transfer to the Information Protection unit. However, the next morning, they contacted his family and informed his parents of Mehdi’s fall from bed, asking them to go to the hospital.

After the Farhangiyan family went to Taleghani Hospital in Kermanshah, they were confronted with Mehdi’s lifeless body, which was wrapped in a shroud. According to the family’s account, his body had been cut from beside his ear to his navel and then stitched back up.

As is customary, the regime’s security forces, by obtaining a commitment letter, placed the Farhangiyan family under pressure and threat, ordering them to bury their son’s body secretly without notification and delay, and warning that if they disobeyed, Mehdi’s body would not be returned to them.

When Mehdi’s family transferred his body to the Sanandaj cemetery, while washing the lifeless body, they noticed a fracture at the back of Mehdi’s head that was filled with plaster and showed no signs of a bullet wound.

This is while the Kermanshah Information Protection Office had declared the cause of Mehdi’s death as suicide, despite the fact that according to regulations, on the first day Mehdi was transferred to the Information Protection unit, he had not been issued a weapon. Furthermore, in Mehdi’s death certificate, the cause of death was listed as collision with hard or sharp objects.

Following the Farhangiyan family’s request for CCTV footage to prove their son’s suicide, the mentioned location was claimed to have no surveillance cameras. This is while all Information Protection facilities have CCTV cameras.

The regime’s intelligence agencies claimed Mehdi had committed suicide by shooting himself in the abdomen, but the Farhangiyan family, upon seeing their son’s body, stated that if suicide was committed by three shots to the abdomen, then why was there a laceration from a blow at the back of his head, and why was there no sign of a bullet exit wound at the back of his waist?

Another puzzling issue is that if suicide had occurred, why was Mehdi’s body cut from near his ear to his navel and then stitched up?

According to statements from Mehdi’s relatives and friends, he was a very spirited, courageous person free of any physical or mental illness and depression. He wanted to finish his military service so he could support his father and contribute to his family’s expenses. It is worth noting that Mehdi’s father was a Sanandaj municipality worker with modest financial means.

Mehdi’s relatives also stated: “Mehdi was a freedom-loving young man and supporter of the Woman, Life, Freedom revolution, and based on our knowledge of Mehdi’s character, we consider the regime’s intelligence agencies’ claim about Mehdi’s suicide to be completely impossible and invalid.”
Some speculation by those close to him suggests that Mehdi was killed due to ideological disagreements with members of the Information Protection Office, and given the mutilated condition of Mehdi’s body and plaster filling in his head, it is possible that his body parts were removed for sale after his murder.

The Farhangiyan family continues to pursue the killing of their son, while the officials of the regime’s judicial and security institutions, as usual, are unwilling to provide transparent answers about this crime.
