European Union Maintains Missile Sanctions Against Islamic Republic

The European Union will maintain and extend missile sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

According to information from four EU diplomatic sources provided to the Islamic Republic, sanctions related to Iran’s ballistic missiles, which were scheduled to be lifted on October 17, 2023 according to the JCPOA, will be extended again.

According to a Reuters report yesterday, Wednesday, July 28, the extension of missile sanctions against the Islamic Republic was attributed to three main reasons. The main reasons for extending these sanctions are: Russia’s use of drones manufactured by the Islamic Republic against Ukraine, the possibility of transferring Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia, and depriving Iran of the benefits of the nuclear agreement.

The European Union’s maintenance of sanctions reflects Western efforts to prevent the production of nuclear weapons in Iran. Since the Islamic Republic violated the JCPOA and in exchange for lifting economic sanctions was supposed to halt the acquisition of fissile materials for bomb-making, but instead increased uranium enrichment levels to 60 percent, which according to the International Atomic Energy Agency chief, has no civilian justification.

It is worth noting that nuclear weapons experts have estimated that the progress of the Iranian regime in the nuclear field is at a level where there is only a 12-day gap between the decision and the acquisition of fissile materials.
