Iranian Singer Hossein Zaman Reacts to Arrest of Voria Ghafouri

Hossein Zaman, a renowned Iranian singer, responded to the arrest of Voria Ghafouri by stating that it will cost you dearly.

Voria Ghafouri, born in 1987, is an ethnic Kurdish footballer from Iran. In recent weeks, particularly following the widespread suppression of Kurdish areas in Iran by government security forces, he has taken a strong stance against the Islamic Republic and called for an end to the killing of Kurds by security forces. He had also previously opposed the ban on women attending stadiums.

He had posted a story on his personal Instagram page about the national football team titled “Dishonorable,” which was considered insulting.

Well-known footballer Voria Ghafouri was arrested for taking a stance against the Islamic Republic and for insulting the national team. The charge against him is stated as “insulting and damaging the national team.” News of his arrest sparked severe reactions and a massive wave of support on social media.

Following these reactions, Iranian singer “Hossein Zaman” posted a story on his Twitter account and personal Instagram page today regarding the arrest of “Voria Ghafouri.” In this story, he stated: “These successive arrests mean your entire being is gripped by fear. Do not forget that turning against those who are loved by the people will cost you dearly.”

Many other footballers have also been summoned for supporting the protesters. Additionally, officials of the Islamic Republic have arrested a number of footballers on charges related to national security.

In the past, the leader of the Islamic Republic, Khamenei, claimed in response to protests that the stances taken by certain sports and entertainment figures were of no importance. However, now many sports and entertainment figures are in detention for their support of the protesters and recent protests.
